Jim Baudanza is a Phoenix-based author, technology professional, entrepreneur, business owner, coach, mentor, husband, and father whose education has never been confined to a traditional classroom.
For more than four decades, Jim has worked at the intersection of technology, business, and problem-solving. His career began during the early years of the personal-computing revolution and grew to encompass enterprise systems, networking, cybersecurity, web development, digital infrastructure, and the practical work of helping people and businesses make technology useful.
Hockey offered a different kind of education. A multi-sport athlete in his younger years, Jim spent more than seventeen years playing competitive hockey in New England. His passion for the game eventually expanded into coaching, teaching, and player development, pursuits that remain close to him today.
Across decades of building businesses, competing, coaching, and raising a family, Jim began recognizing a pattern: lasting improvement rarely comes from being handed an answer. It comes from understanding why something works, recognizing the fundamentals beneath it, and learning how to apply those fundamentals when circumstances change.
Looking back, he realized he had approached much of life that way, almost instinctively. Once the basics made sense, new information became easier to absorb, abilities could grow, and complicated problems became more approachable. For years, Jim assumed that was simply how everyone learned. Only later did he begin to see that his tendency to work back to first principles, connect the pieces, and build outward might be less common than he'd imagined.
His education has included schools, professional training, technical certifications, coaches, and mentors. But some of its most lasting lessons came through observation, competition, mistakes, conversations, family life, helping others, and the persistent desire to understand something for himself rather than merely accept an answer.
The Bench grew naturally from stories and conversations Jim shared with his children, together with questions, observations, and ideas he has carried since childhood. Those elements became the family setting for a series of remembered conversations, unexpected experiences, and mysteries that continue to unfold.
